OINK 1.3.2 — Hugo-only builds restored

Remove the mandatory Dart Sass dependency and use Hugo Extended 0.168.0 with visible warnings for all maintained sites.

OINK 1.3.2 removes the mandatory Dart Sass installation introduced in 1.3.1. Ordinary site builds and previews use Hugo Extended and its built-in LibSass. Main styles, ReDoc styles, dark syntax highlighting, and project SCSS hooks remain supported. All independent readability and FileTree fixes from 1.3.1 remain included.

Included reading repairs

The release keeps the community fixes introduced in 1.3.1:

  • Markmap: readable node text across light/dark modes and visual presets.
  • TOC: the fixed outline clears the footer, including after content reflows.
  • Technical tables: opt in with .td-table--wide to preserve identifier widths inside a horizontal scroll region.
  • FileTree: opt in with wrap=true for complete long comments. Compact rows remain the default.

These repairs came from @imbajin, with theme fixtures, tests, and bilingual companion documentation. The 1.3.1 contribution record links each pull request.

Build requirements

Published tag and current baseline

OINK v1.3.2 was released with Hugo Extended 0.166.0 as its minimum and default, accepting the Hugo 0.168.0 LibSass warning. Maintained sites now use the pinned 0.168.0 baseline below. This documentation update does not change the published tag.

Hugo Extended 0.168.0 is the development, CI, preview, and deployment baseline for all maintained sites. The module declares Go 1.27.0 as its minimum; development uses Go 1.27.2. Go resolves Hugo Modules. No external Sass executable, Node.js, or npm is required for ordinary site builds.

Do not enable --panicOnWarning or HUGO_PANICONWARNING. Keep warnings visible and review them. Hugo reports an upstream LibSass deprecation warning; this known warning is accepted. Checks verify theme diagnostics and safe fallbacks directly.

The default Hugo version stays pinned. Future upgrades must preserve the consumer dependency boundary. A Hugo release that removes built-in LibSass requires a separate compatibility decision.

Upgrade

Update the module pin:

env -u HUGO_MODULE_REPLACEMENTS GOWORK=off HUGO_MODULE_WORKSPACE=off \
  hugo mod get github.com/pgsty/[email protected]
env -u HUGO_MODULE_REPLACEMENTS GOWORK=off HUGO_MODULE_WORKSPACE=off \
  hugo --environment production --minify --printPathWarnings

Commit the updated go.mod and go.sum. Remove Sass installation steps that were added solely for OINK 1.3.1, and set the default Hugo workflow version to 0.168.0. Sites using a vendored theme must refresh that copy as well.

Existing content, appearance settings, and project SCSS customizations need no migration. Maintained sites keep Paper as the default and offer the explicit preset_menu: [paper, slate, ink, terminal] reader menu. See the toolchain contract.

Validation

The theme’s focused compiler check builds real main and ReDoc styles with no Sass executable on PATH. It checks project-variable and project-style hooks and the dark Chroma palette. Hugo 0.168.0 builds with warnings visible. The compiler checker accepts the known upstream LibSass warning and rejects unexpected diagnostics.
